# Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design

The rooftop garden was designed the other way round. Taku Satoh started from Japanese sound words, guruguru, hisohiso and fuwafuwa, then built play equipment to match. Fuwafuwa is a bouncing dome you climb onto with shoes off, moved from an earlier playground on the same site. From the roof the Tateyama range and the canal park spread out, and a 360-degree panorama viewer names the peaks and their heights on screen. Indoors, a kids' room holds about 350 picture books, and the atelier runs workshops small children can join.

- Hours: The museum is open 9:30-18:00, last entry 17:30, closed Wednesdays (unless it is a public holiday), the day after a public holiday, and over the new year. The rooftop garden keeps different hours: 8:00-22:00, last entry 21:30, and it closes for the winter from 1 December to 15 March — outside that period it is open even on days the museum itself is shut. The play equipment on the roof can only be used from 8:00 until sunset. High wind, rain or thunderclouds can close the roof at short notice, and it also closes when a heatstroke special alert is in force.
