The building is faced in stone quarried at Mount Kanpu, and took its present form in 2013. In the Hall of Mystery, dugout canoes and other tools set out the landscape that produced the Namahage. A film in the next hall shows Oga's New Year's Eve rite on a loop. The world's only Namahage mask carver works here on some days, cutting a face out of wood. - Area: akita - Type: sightseeing - Average stay: 30 min - Hours: The museum is open 8:30-17:00 all year with no closing days, and the film 'A Night of the Namahage' runs every 30 minutes from 8:30 to 16:30. The performance next door keeps its own timetable: from April to November there are 13 sittings a day at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30, 15:00, 15:30, 16:00 and 16:30, and from December to March only six, at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30. Nothing runs between 11:30 and 13:30.
