# Nishi-Seto Expressway (Setouchi Shimanami Kaido)

From the Imabari side, the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge begins with a gentle, car-free spiral ramp; on top, whirlpools may be visible below. Partway across, an elevator big enough for bikes (not tandems) drops to Umashima island. The ride from the bridge to Umashima, about 5 km and an hour, is described as comfortable even with small children. On another bridge, the Tatara, kids strike wooden clappers under the tower and hear the sound echo skyward. At Setoda on Ikuchijima, Setoda Sunset Beach has floating play equipment in the shallows.
