# Kashima-jingu Shrine

The deer park is where children have the most fun, and ¥100 buys carrots to feed the deer. Further on, the Kaname-ishi stone is said to pin down an earthquake-causing catfish's head. Nearby, a statue of the god pressing the catfish down sparked one boy's interest in Japan's oldest myths. At the far end, spring-fed Mitarashi Pond is clear enough to see fish and crayfish, and its teahouse serves dango made with that water. Deer, a legend and clear water turn the long walk into a string of small finds.
