The thatched houses are shops and homes at once, kept under a charter not to sell, lend or demolish. There are no opening hours; most shops are open from 9:00 to 16:00. Some close on Thursdays and some need a winter booking, so choose a second soba shop too. Parking is 500 yen for a car, cash on the day only, so bring it.
