# Lake Toya

Stepping ashore on Oshima, one of the Nakajima islands, is the main event of a lake day in summer. Boats leave the hot-spring town every 30 minutes, so you can get off and take a later one. The 45-minute forest course took one 5-year-old about 60 minutes along soft wood-chip paths, and the pier sells 100-yen fish food. On summer nights fireworks go up over the lake, and a 2-year-old watched them open-mouthed from a hotel window. Nakajima's trails suit children who walk; a baby is better carried there.
