The park was planned in 1968 as part of the national program marking 100 years of the Meiji era, and it opened in 1973 to give children a place to play full of greenery, sunshine, and clean air.
Its 19 hectares look out over the Tottori Sand Dunes, and a renovation reopened the grounds in March 2000.
For its 50th anniversary in May 2023, it added a play area modeled on Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew, the Pokemon that serve as Tottori's hometown ambassadors.

When the kids need to run and climb, you can turn them loose here, right beside the Tottori Sand Dunes.
The biggest play area is roofed, so rain or cold does not end the day: inside it a walkway 130 meters long runs 4.5 meters off the ground.
Ask at the main building and you can borrow a stroller for free; the nursing room is in the same building.
Bring a packed lunch and you can eat it on the lawn, in the shade of the trees, or at covered benches, since the food counter opens only on weekends and holidays from early January to mid-March.
Plan on half a day: one family spent three afternoon hours and still did not see it all.

- Ages 0-1The Rail Train Sand, styled after the Pokemon Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew, has no minimum age and is free for children two and under. It runs a 270-meter track at about 5 km/h, taking about five minutes for a lap. The management building has a multipurpose space with play equipment for toddlers, and inside Sozokan there is a reading corner and toys for small children where you can also rest.The nursing room is in the management building, which is also where strollers and wheelchairs are lent free; you ask a staff member. There are no trash bins in the park, so everything goes home with you. At the summer fountain plaza, disposable diapers are not allowed in the water, and swim diapers are sold at the shop. The whole park is non-smoking, and parking is free for 500 cars.
- Ages 2-3The Fuwafuwa Dome, a big balloon you bounce on like a trampoline, is for ages 3 to 6, and the inclusive play equipment is for ages 3 to 6 as well, both built for exactly this age.
