Joyfull Tobori is a branch of a budget family restaurant chain found mostly in western Japan.
Its broad menu runs from Western to Japanese and Chinese dishes, and most kids' meals come with a seasonal toy.
MoreWhat kind of place
Joyfull, a company founded on May 20, 1976, with its head office in Oita City, has grown on low prices into a chain of about 600 family restaurants, found mostly in western Japan. In a 2023 survey of 164 foreign residents of Japan, it ranked seventh among the family restaurants they visit most.
With kidsThe part that matters
Kids' meals that come with a toy are the centerpiece, one seasonal toy each. Only the plain kids' udon and kids' ice cream come without one.
The plates, from curry to meat-sauce spaghetti, can be ordered through sixth grade. Alongside them, the Kids Joy Cafe, a drink and soup bar, is free up to age 3.
You can order in English on your phone via the table's QR code. So on a tiring day, a child here gets a meal, a drink and often a toy of their own.
By age0-1 / 2-3 / 4-6
- Ages 0-1For small children, the chain suggests its kids' udon plate, gentle in flavor and with a toy, and it sets out children's cutlery as well.
- Ages 2-3At this age, the drink bar is what delights children, as a mother with a 2–3-year-old and an older child wrote in 2016 of the Katsuhara branch, another Joyfull in Himeji.
- Ages 4-6After age 3, though, that drink bar, the Kids Joy Cafe, is no longer free. It costs 152 yen with tax, as long as a single dish of 299 yen or more (before tax) is ordered, except at some branches. Meanwhile, the kids' hamburg steak plate, which also comes with a toy, can have its sauce switched to ketchup.

Before you go
- The four low-allergen kids' dishes (the curry plate, doria plate, doria and fries) are not allergen-free: the kids' doria (658 yen with tax at chain prices) leaves out shrimp, crab, walnut, wheat, buckwheat, egg, milk and peanut, but all four are marked for soy, and kitchens share utensils, dishes and frying oil, so traces can get in. Check the official "Allergen, nutrition and origin information" page before you go.
- Plan for baby care before you arrive: a parenting column says standalone branches usually have no dedicated nursing room and the menu has no baby-food section, with no clear official word on bringing your own. The official store search does not list high chairs or diaper-changing tables, so call the branch (079-265-3134) to ask.
- Seating is easier: the same column says many branches can be entered without folding a stroller and keep plastic baby chairs, though this varies by branch, and some take requests for roomier booth seats. The Tobori branch is entirely non-smoking.
- The branch's official page gives hours of 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., though one Retty listing (updated 2024) says 24 hours. Joyfull has three branches in Himeji, and the other two, Himeji Shinzaike (5.1 km away) and Katsuhara, are listed as open 24 hours. From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., a 10% late-night surcharge is added. Some branches close briefly in October 2026 for equipment work; Tobori's page showed no notice when checked, so look again before you go.
- The kids' curry plate is 548 yen and the kids' hamburg steak plate 625 yen with tax at chain prices, which differ at some branches, and Retty puts the budget at up to 1,000 yen per person. Joyfull QR Order, for ordering from the QR code at your table, is available here. You can pay at your table here, and the chain accepts card (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay, American Express, Diners Club, Discover), transit IC cards such as Suica or ICOCA, Apple Pay and QR payments such as PayPay, WeChat Pay and Alipay, except at some branches.
- The branch is listed at a 6–7-minute walk from Tobori Station on the JR Bantan Line, and Tobori-kita bus stop, on the route from Himeji Station's north exit to the Flower Center, is a 1–2-minute walk away. Drivers can use the branch's own parking (spaces not stated), 560 m from Tobori Interchange on the Bantan Renraku Road.
