The exhibits are inside the two-floor North Building and the three-floor South Building. The 3rd-floor stadium seating in the North Building, where the dolphin performance is held, is outdoors under a roof, and Shiokaze Plaza in the North Building, where you can eat food you brought, is outdoors.
All 11 permanent exhibit rooms and the planetarium are inside. The cafe restaurant cannot be reached from within the building — you step outside from the entrance hall on the first floor of the Rikokan building.
The exhibit areas — the Textile Machinery Pavilion, the Automobile Pavilion, and Techno Land — are all inside the red-brick building, and umbrellas (parasols included) may not be brought in.
