The Watching Cycle, a two-seater, takes riders from age 2 and lets you look down on the animals from the air, 500 yen a person. At the Nakayoshi Petting Plaza, open every day, children can touch small animals such as chicks and guinea pigs.The Watching Cycle runs on weekends and holidays, 9:30-16:00, or to 16:30 from April to October. Nothing but the feed sold inside the zoo may be given to the animals: not vegetables, meat or snacks you brought, and not fallen leaves or grass either. The feed vending machines take cash only, and admission is 400 yen for a child aged 3 or over.
Near the start of the walk there are Reeves' turtles you can touch. At the Animal Nursery children feed and stroke the rabbits, open 9:00 to 15:30. A dish of snacks for the Japanese macaques is 100 yen, the most popular of the feeding points. The led-horse rides are open to children, and three laps of the small ring costs 500 yen.Admission for a child aged 2 or over is 600 yen, paid in cash at the reception. The walking trail is about 4 km and every path is dirt. A family with a 3- and a 7-year-old (August 2024) walked the loop and rested in about an hour and a half, without the horse ride or the dog and cat houses. Turtle petting is not held on cold winter days, and Abu, the Aldabra giant tortoise of about 65 kg, may also be unavailable when the outside temperature is low.
At the touch corner children handle fossils, ammonites and trilobites among them. There is also a horseshoe crab marionette whose legs and tail spine move when you work the handle. Every child is given a coloring sheet on the way in, and one of the two rest rooms upstairs is the coloring room, set where the eye of the horseshoe-crab-shaped building is, so daylight comes in.The finished coloring sheet can be pinned up in the room, or handed to reception on the way out to be displayed; taking it home is fine too. The Dinosaur Park outside is free, parking included, and it has tables, benches and a log-house shelter, so a packed lunch works even on a rainy day. A preschool outing with 3- to 5-year-olds (September 2025) spent over an hour inside the museum alone, not counting the Dinosaur Park.
