Rainy day things to do in Yamanashi with kids 3 spots
Yamanashi sits under Mount Fuji, with lakes strung along its foot. Fuji-Q Highland keeps a Thomas the Tank Engine park for children too small for coasters, and the valleys grow peaches and grapes you can pick yourself.
Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center
A prefectural museum beside the maglev test track, with the car that hit 581 km/h.

You can watch the test runs from the viewing lounge on the third floor, which runs about 40 meters along the track. There is also an outdoor viewing terrace on the second floor.
All 250 seats are indoors at sunken hearths or sunken-kotatsu floor tables, there is no terrace seating, and the entrance has a ramp.
Rain changes little inside, because the main route is indoors, though rainy days in the summer holidays are the most crowded. The time you would have spent outside goes upstairs: the theater shows short films (new ones were announced for July 2026), and a 2019 account describes walking in and out freely and a shoes-off kids' space with fish soft toys and picture books, so check on the day what is there now.
