The domestic terminal is a semicircle with 18 gates, and it also holds shops, restaurants, a movie theater, museum spaces and a hotel; the smaller international terminal, on the west side, has 8 gates and was completed in August 2019.
The two are joined on the third floor by a walkway nicknamed Smile Road, and no shuttle bus runs between them, so you walk.

The entertainment floor has a play zone (DORAEMON WAKU WAKU SKY PARK), with observation decks and chocolate factory displays nearby, so a delay here does not have to mean an hour stuck at the gate.
Arrive 30 to 60 minutes earlier than you normally would and the kids can spend that time there rather than by the gate.
Nursing rooms are on nearly every floor, and their baby beds are the easiest place to add layers before you head out into the Hokkaido cold.
One catch: the loaner strollers cannot go through the security check, so hand yours back before the checkpoint and count on carrying your child to the gate.
The station is inside the terminal, so you reach the train without going outside, and the rapid service is in Sapporo in about 37 minutes.
