New Chitose is Hokkaido’s gateway — and the rare airport kids ask to go back to, thanks to an entire entertainment floor with a Doraemon park inside the terminal.
Nursing rooms
Free nursing rooms are spread across nearly every floor: domestic terminal B1F–4F, international terminal 1F–4F, and the connecting corridor 1F–3F. Most are equipped with a baby bed, milk-preparation facilities, and hand-washing equipment (a few rooms are simpler).
Strollers
Free loaner strollers at the information desks of both the domestic and international terminals. Note: loaner strollers cannot go through security — hand them back before the checkpoint, and use the walk-to-gate time for carrying practice.
Play — the famous part
DORAEMON WAKU WAKU SKY PARK on the terminal’s entertainment floor has a play zone, shop and café. Combined with chocolate factory displays and observation decks nearby, a flight delay here is genuinely not a problem.
Into Sapporo
- JR Rapid Airport to Sapporo Station in about 37–40 minutes — frequent, luggage racks, kids ride the quiet cars happily
- Buses serve ski resorts and city hotels directly in winter
Tips
- The airport is a destination: arrive 30–60 minutes earlier than you normally would, and let the kids spend it in the play zone rather than at the gate.
- Hokkaido winters mean bulky clothes — the nursing rooms’ baby beds are the easiest place to re-layer a baby before going outside.
