Tokyo DisneySea is a Disney theme park in Urayasu, Chiba, made up of eight themed "ports."
Rocky hills cast natural shade, and one whole area of the park, Mermaid Lagoon, sits indoors.
MoreWhat kind of place
Tokyo DisneySea opened on September 4, 2001, in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, outside Tokyo despite its name, with seven themed ports. Fantasy Springs, added on June 6, 2024, made eight, and the 25th-anniversary event, Sparkling Jubilee, runs until March 2027.
With kidsThe part that matters
Mermaid Lagoon, the indoor area, keeps places that suit small children close together. Inside, 1-year-olds can ride the Blowfish Balloon Race and Whirlpool held by a parent, and Ariel's Playground takes the stroller.
Repeats are fine: one 3-year-old went back for a fourth ride, and her parents call a second round of the area a good plan. Between areas, too, the Transit Steamer Line officially takes strollers.
The park's FAQ omits the Electric Railway, but one family rode it with theirs in 2022. It made one family's seated afternoon break.
By age0-1 / 2-3 / 4-6
- Ages 0-1Holding your baby, you can ride the Venetian Gondolas (boat rides), Sindbad's Storybook Voyage and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which one family found dark but barely shaking. The star-shaped play space in Mermaid Lagoon let a 10-month-old crawl from end to end, among plenty of other little ones.
- Ages 2-3Darkness unsettled two children this age: a 3-year-old got scared on Nemo & Friends SeaRider once the lights dimmed and disliked the moving seats, and a 2-year-old who dislikes the dark would not go past Mermaid Lagoon's dim entrance. A stroller doubles as a bed, too: a 2-year-old napped there for two hours, and another fell asleep right after entry while her parents rested in Mermaid Lagoon.

By weatherRain, heat, cold
- Rainy dayRain is less trouble than it sounds: a family with a 3-year-old and a baby found many rides for small children indoors and the crowds lighter. Most of the park is outdoors, but all of Mermaid Lagoon is indoors, so a stroller can spend a wet day there; on one rainy day with a typhoon forecast, there was no wait to enter the park.
- Hot dayJuly to September is hard going: a mother who came with her 2-year-old in summer would not recommend those months, since outside Mermaid Lagoon's indoor area it was too hot. Rocky hills do cast natural shade, and in summer 2026 a family with a 7-month-old found that choosing indoor rides and character greetings kept most waits cool.

Where to go next
Where it is
Listing sites give the address as 1-1 Maihama, Urayasu, Chiba (postal code 279-8511); despite "Tokyo" in its name, every third-party source places it in Chiba Prefecture.source
Before you go
- Among the baby facilities, only the Baby Center gives hot water for formula (boiled tap water at 70°C or more; bring your own if you need other water), in Mediterranean Harbor to the right after the entrance, next to Mamma Biscotti's Bakery. It was closed from May 12 to October 2, 2026, and the closure notice was gone from its official page on October 3; the official guide and FAQ still showed the old closure dates, though, so check the closure notes on its facility page before you go. One counter-service restaurant also gave hot water in a paper cup.
- For nursing and changing elsewhere, the Mermaid Lagoon Baby Care Room is not inside King Triton's Castle but just outside the building, so you leave the indoor area to reach it; it is opposite the Kiss de Girl Fashions shop, and the nearby entrance has a ramp for strollers. It has no staff on duty but a call button, more changing tables and nursing rooms than the Baby Center, and no hot water. The restroom on the left of the Tower of Terror has two nursing rooms. Men cannot enter the nursing rooms, and one writer found the afternoon wait for a private nursing room was often 15–25 minutes; restrooms for both men and women have changing tables.
- Park strollers cost ¥1,000 a day, cannot be reserved and may be unavailable at times; they suit children from 7 months who can sit up alone, up to 100 cm and 15 kg, and are picked up just left of the AquaSphere globe in Mediterranean Harbor. They all look alike and cast members (park staff) rearrange them, so one parent advises tying on a bright scarf. Your own stroller is allowed only if it can be pushed from behind, its wheels lock and it cannot move by itself; carts and tricycles are not allowed. Paths have slopes and level changes, and with a stroller you may detour to find a ramp or elevator; around Port Discovery, one family had to turn back.
- Packed lunches cannot be eaten in the park, only in the Picnic Area outside, and you must complete the re-entry procedure at the exit before leaving. Snacks for small children, water bottles and plastic-bottle drinks (no alcohol) may come in, and baby food may be brought into restaurants, which sell none, as may food for anyone with a dietary restriction such as an allergy (others in the party order from the menu); restaurants that offer heating can warm it if you ask on the day. Tables have no water or paper napkins, but every area has water fountains. Diapers, wipes, liquid formula and baby food are sold in some park shops; Figaro's Clothiers, on the left after the entrance, has diapers and wipes, but the Central First Aid room neither gives out nor sells medicine, so pack what your child may need (a drugstore in Ikspiari, the shopping complex in Maihama, sells it). Mermaid Lagoon also has a place for water play, where a 3-year-old needed a change of clothes, so bring one.
- Height limits apply: 90 cm for Nemo & Friends SeaRider and Flounder's Flying Fish Coaster; 102 cm for Soaring: Fantastic Flight, Tower of Terror and Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure; 117 cm for Indiana Jones Adventure, Raging Spirits and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Children under 7 need a companion aged 16 or older. When a child cannot ride, two adults can take turns without queueing again (the rider switch service): before joining the line, show your park tickets to the cast member at the ride. Children 3 and under need no Disney Premier Access pass.
- Park tickets are for a set date and sold only up to each day's capacity, so buy before the day; a ticket is needed from age 4, and prices vary by date. Hours change by day, so check the official Park Operation Calendar; the Jalan listing site gave 8:00–22:00, varying by season, in 2022. No paper maps or show schedules are handed out, so use the Tokyo Disney Resort app, which appears in English if your phone is set to English. Arrive early: in December 2022, one family waited an hour at the bag check.
- From JR Maihama Station's south exit, turn left to Resort Gateway Station and take the Disney Resort Line monorail, which runs one way via the Tokyo Disneyland and Bayside stations to Tokyo DisneySea Station, a 2–3 minute walk from the entrance; it takes 15–20 minutes in all, depending on the wait. Every Resort Line station has elevators and strollers board unfolded, but the line is crowded right after the park closes, around 9 p.m., so one writer suggests waiting for the next train then.
