Yaesu is Tokyo Station's Yaesu-gate side, where Yaechika's underground mall connects to Midtown Yaesu.
Midtown Yaesu, opened in 2023, has a planted outdoor terrace of about 750 square meters on its fifth floor.
MoreWhat kind of place
Yaesu grew as a castle town of merchants and craftspeople around Edo Castle, and a newspaper said it long seemed messier and plainer than Marunouchi and Otemachi. Redevelopment has since added Midtown Yaesu, which opened on March 10, 2023, and TOFROM YAESU, which opened on September 10, 2026.
With kidsThe part that matters
That fifth-floor terrace, YAESU TERRACE, has limited entrances, so children can walk freely. It is not flat, with a small hill, a winding slope and benches, and part of it is roofed; buses are easy to see.
Downstairs, the first-floor Galleria, a roofed space open to the air, has hosted a free walk-through carp streamer in Golden Week.
Next door, a free interactive rice gallery held a 4-year-old for nearly an hour, against 30 minutes expected. Midtown Yaesu alone is over quickly, so make it one stop among several.
By age0-1 / 2-3 / 4-6
- Ages 0-1Midtown Yaesu's B1 nursing room had few users on a Friday after 1 p.m., and one mother with a baby called it comfortable. On the fifth floor, Chikaba Kitchen, a café that allows outside food (some seats are for customers who order), has stroller-friendly space, and a family who came on a weekend with an 11-month-old and a grandmother called it a hidden spot, with other toddlers moving around.
- Ages 2-3The terrace has a small hill and a winding slope. A mother of a 2-year-old who visited several times since 2023 called it a rare place near Tokyo Station where a child can move around.
- Ages 4-6The terrace alone may feel short: a mother of 4-year-old twins thought it would be over quickly and recommends pairing it with Tokyo Torch, a plaza with play equipment under a 10-minute walk away. Another mother with a 4-year-old wished she had left more time for the Galleria's free events.
By weatherRain, heat, cold
- Rainy dayThe route from the station to Midtown Yaesu runs underground, so rain barely matters, and Yaechika has few steps. The Galleria is roofed, but the fifth-floor terrace is only partly covered.
- Hot dayMuch of the area is indoors, with short distances between stops. In summer, the free rest space on the first floor of the Chuo City Tourist Information Center, about a 5-minute walk from Yaechika's exit 5, serves as a cooling shelter (no eating).

Where to go next
Where it is
Yaechika is at 2-1 Yaesu, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, on the first and second basement levels.source
Before you go
- Midtown Yaesu's loaner strollers are free for newborns to children under 4 (up to 17 kg), but they stay inside the building, cannot be reserved and are lent for about 4 hours, so ask at the first-floor information desk from 11:00 (return by 18:30) with a phone number and ID (a passport works).
- The paperwork took about 10 minutes for one visitor, and about four strollers went out at once when lending began at 11:00, so go right when it starts.
- Ordinary men's and women's restrooms in Midtown Yaesu have no diaper-changing space, so use the B1 baby room (three bed-type tables and one for a standing child) or a multipurpose restroom on the other floors.
- Nursing rooms are on B1 only, and only the largest private room fits a stroller; the private rooms do not lock and are women-only, while the shared area of the baby room has a sink and hot water for formula.
- Yaechika's floor map marks elevators only for B2F and B3F, and the way up to the street is mostly numbered stairs, so with a stroller take an elevator from outside the Yaesu-side station gates down to B1 (Yaechika, Gransta Yaesu, the Daimaru basement): one by the taxi stand at the Yaesu South Exit, and one on 1F Character Street near the Yaesu North side, which was relatively empty at some hours. The one that comes out in front of the 2F Starbucks does not go down to B1, and the elevators near the gates get crowded at some hours.
- Midtown Yaesu's 1F to 3F shops and restaurants open at 11:00 (B1 at 10:00; some shops differ), and the 3F restaurants filled quickly after 12:00 on a Golden Week day, so eat early. For a kids' meal or a kids' chair, one parent recommends the 3F restaurant floor, but it varies by shop: FLOWS GRILL BAR on 3F has no kids' chair or menu. The 2F Yaespublic has kids' chairs but nothing a child can eat and bars outside food from 11:00 to 13:30. The rice gallery at Yanmar Tokyo next door is open 10:00 to 17:00 and closed on Mondays.
- Yaechika is busy in the morning commute (an unofficial tip: strollers move easier after 9:30). If you arrive or leave by Shinkansen, one traveler found that the gate near Daimaru on the Yaesu North side has only escalators, which is hard with a stroller. If you transfer from other JR lines, of the Tokaido Shinkansen transfer gates only the south one has an elevator inside (the central one has none).
