Fuwa-fuwa runs up to age 12, so this is the age to take the shoes off and really bounce. The rooftop has a 360-degree panorama viewer that labels the mountains with their names and heights, so a child can pick out the peaks of the Tateyama range. At the poster touch panel they can page through 3,500 of the museum's roughly 14,000 posters on a large screen themselves. The collection exhibition is free to view for anyone of university age or younger.The Atelier runs workshops pitched so that everyone from small children to adults can join, and artists sometimes work there in public. The TAD Gallery, Atelier, Hall, library corner, video corner, Kids Room and poster touch panel are all free. The Hall's interactive art, which you create by moving your body, is suspended as of April 2026. The museum is open 9:30-18:00 with last entry at 17:30, and closed on Wednesdays (except public holidays), the day after a public holiday, and over the New Year. Parking is free for two hours if you visit the museum or Kansui Park.
A family with a third-grader and a six-year-old took the 10:22 to Nekomata and were back in two hours. Because the cars are open and windowless, the gorge and the tunnels come at you with nothing in between. From 1 October to 30 November the full line to Keyakidaira runs, and the autumn colours usually last from mid-October to mid-November, starting around Keyakidaira in mid-October and at their best between Kanetsuri and Unazuki in mid-November.The child fare covers ages 6 up to 12. From 20 April to 30 September the Unazuki-Nekomata round trip is 2,820 yen for adults and 1,420 for children, and until 30 September 2026 the line turns back at Nekomata, so Keyakidaira is not reachable. There is no toilet on board, so go before boarding. Kanetsuri station has stairs through an underpass between platform and gate with no lift, and the ground around Kuronagi and Kanetsuri is steep and stepped, which limits walking there. At Keyakidaira, anything beyond the station forecourt needs assistance. Booking opens three months before the ride and closes at 15:00 the previous day, and a booking cannot be made by elementary-age children alone. Coin lockers at Unazuki and Keyakidaira are 500 yen a use, taking items up to 80 cm high, 35 wide, and 48 deep.
Children can climb the observation tower on Tenmon Bridge on their own legs, open 9:00 to 21:30. The bird-watching hut keeps a telescope, and kingfishers, herons and brown-eared bulbuls turn up. On the Fugan Suijo Line canal cruise, the Nakajima Lock works as a "water elevator" that raises and lowers the boat you are sitting in. From April to November, the once-a-month Kansui Park Day includes a canoe session.The park itself never closes, but the observation tower on Tenmon Bridge is only open 9:00 to 21:30 and shut outside those hours. The Fugan Suijo Line suspends its cruises through the winter and starts again in spring. Canoeing is only on Kansui Park Day, once a month from April to November; putting your own canoe or boat on the water needs a permit application. Skateboards, electric kick scooters and drones cannot be used in the park, and fishing is not allowed in the stretch up to Kobabashi bridge.
