The rooftop garden is lined with play equipment designed from Japanese onomatopoeia — guru-guru, hiso-hiso and others. The bouncing dome, Fuwa-fuwa, is for age three and up, shoes off. That dome is the one that stood on this ground before the museum, already a favourite with local children.Fuwa-fuwa is for ages 3 to 12, and both the number of children and the length of a turn are limited for safety. The play equipment can be used from 8:00 until sunset, which is not the same as the rooftop's own hours of 8:00-22:00. The rooftop is closed from 1 December to 15 March, and shuts in strong wind, rain or thunderclouds, and on any day a heatstroke special alert is in force. Sunshine can make the equipment and benches hot enough to burn, and Fuwa-fuwa is taken out of use when its surface gets too hot. Spreading a mat to eat on the rooftop is asked against.
With open cars and no windows, the wind is on their face the whole way. On the Nekomata turnaround you can take pictures at the new photo-spot area opened on 8 August 2026, then ride back in the same car you came in. Every passenger has a secured seat.There is no toilet on board, so go before boarding; the Nekomata turnaround is about 120 minutes round trip including the toilet stop at Nekomata. The standard cars have no seat backs, and rain blows in, so a rain cape or poncho is needed. Summer is cool on board; from September some days are cold. The windowed Relax car is a boxed car needing a separate 600-yen car ticket per ride, with no air conditioning but heating in the cold season. During Golden Week, Obon, and the autumn-colour season you may not get the train or car you want, so booking ahead is recommended, from three months before the ride until 15:00 the day before.
At the fountain plaza the water starts and stops, and children play there in a swimsuit or in the clothes they arrived in. On the lawn, light exercise up to about a game of catch is allowed, and nothing stops you spreading out a packed lunch.No changing room is listed, so bring the change of clothes yourselves and count on the multipurpose restrooms as the place to change — the three of them, below the outdoor theater, beside the fountain plaza and south of the spring-and-waterfall plaza, all have a diaper changing table. No fire of any kind is allowed in the park: no bonfires, no barbecue, no household fireworks. Spreading out a packed lunch is not prohibited. Dogs may come in, but never off the leash.
