The adventure tower, Noppii, opens up at age 4. Outdoors there are the cloud-viewing hill, Roller Roller, the open meadow Nobinobi Harappa, the play park, Mori-no-Megane, the fort Morimori Toride and the secret forest, and volleyball and soccer are played on the meadow. The novelty bicycles are 150 yen a ride for a one-seater and 270 yen for a parent-and-child bike. Workshops come in four kinds — enjoying nature, making things, sound and food — and the ones outside those four set no limit on age or numbers, so anyone can join at any time. The making-things workshops are not after well-made work; what they care about is the child freely expressing what they felt.On Noppii, to prevent accidents, each child not yet in first grade needs one adult climbing with them — two siblings aged 4 to 6 means two adults go up. Diving and swimming are banned at the raft pond, because you can get tangled or pinned in the raft ropes. You cannot bring your own bicycle in to ride, so riding means renting one of the novelty bicycles. The snoezelen room has to be reserved, and so do the lodging (Manten House), the campsite and the tents; book by phone the day before at 0195-35-3888, between 9:00 and 17:00 on a day the center is open.
The Sky room is a circle seven meters across with sixteen 40-inch screens set into the floor. Five of Kenji's tales drawn in light rain down, and you can hold up something of your own to catch them on. Kenji's Classroom is a set of log houses split into five buildings, Plants, Animals, Stars, Birds and Stones, with the wildcat and the fox in the animal room, Scorpio and the Big Dipper in the star room, and the nighthawk and the owl in the bird room. In Sky Square there is also a stairway that takes you upstream along the water even as you walk down it.Admission to Kenji's School for individuals is 150 yen for elementary and junior high students, 250 for high school and college students, and 350 for adults; the price list names no rate for preschool children. A combination ticket also covers the Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum, the Hanamaki Nitobe Memorial Museum and the Hanamaki City Museum, at 200 yen for two halls, 300 for three and 400 for four for elementary and junior high students. The village closes on Mondays and from December 28 to January 3. The car park holds 86 ordinary cars, three minutes by car from Shin-Hanamaki Station.
The Farm Tractor Ride is a covered wagon that takes you with a guide into the 100-Year Forest, otherwise closed to visitors, and across the pastures - four times a day, about 45 minutes. Horse riding is led on foot by staff, and children ride a pony. There is also a butter-making class at 11:00 (and 14:00 on weekends and holidays) and the Makiba Craft Class, 9:00-11:30 and 13:00-15:30.Book the Farm Tractor Ride at the information center just inside the entrance on your right; departures are 10:30, 11:30, 13:30 and 14:30. Horse riding and horse feeding run 10:00-12:00 and 13:30-15:30 and stop for an hour and a half at midday. Eleven places take cash only, among them horse riding, archery, Shepherd's Golf and the Makiba Craft Class. Admission is 300 yen for children from age 5, and 800 yen from junior high school age.
