Kaiju Hiroba, the half-outdoor plaza, is home to penguins, beavers and seals. Uminomori Stadium, where the dolphin show runs, is outdoors, but the seating has a roof over it. On the 1st floor the food court wakuwaku ocean seats you looking out at a tank and at Uminomori Beach, and it has children's chairs with a belt.Ride-on things a child moves themselves, such as bicycles, toddler push cars, pedal strollers and kick scooters, cannot be used inside as a safety rule. Admission is free under 4 and 700 yen for children 4 and over. You may re-enter the same day: have the stamp pressed on the back of your hand near the exit, take a break outside, and come back in. Opening hours fall into four patterns depending on the day, 8:00-18:00, 9:00-18:00, 9:00-17:30 and 10:00-17:00, with last entry 30 minutes before closing in every case, so check the day on the official calendar. The aquarium is open all year.
The hands-on animal session at Fureai Hill runs every day. At the Monkey Hill shop, monkey feed is 100 yen. Mori no Shokudo, near the ape house, serves udon and soba and has a kids' menu.Tricycles, bicycles, kick scooters, balls, other play or sports equipment and camping gear such as tents may not be brought in. A push-handle tricycle is the one exception, though the zoo asks that the child not pedal it themselves. Food and drink may be brought in; the rest spots are the West Gate courtyard, Fureai Hill, near the Oyama shop, the East Gate plaza, the roofed penguin rest area and the lawn — for the lawn you need a picnic sheet. Once you leave the park you cannot re-enter.
Speak into Wonder Voice and your voice comes back higher or lower, converted into five different patterns. Stamp Robo stamps a sheet of paper you feed into it, and the Strange Mirror bends your body out of shape — none of them need reading to work. The earthquake theatre Gurari-kun is not for visitors 120 cm and under, among others, so at this age head for the Challenge Lab and the Vehicle Garage on the 3rd floor instead. The museum asks that no one run indoors and that you stand still on the escalator. The accessible toilets on floors 2 to 4 have a baby chair that holds a child safely seated. Eating in the exhibition rooms is not allowed as a rule, and the museum provides no lunch space in the entrance hall or elsewhere (there is a light-meal restaurant on the 4th floor). Mid-July to late August, during the special exhibition, is especially crowded.
