The touch pool holds tide-pool animals such as starfish, sea cucumbers, and sea urchins, which small children can safely touch and watch up close. The little penguin enclosure holds the world's smallest penguin species, brought from Australia. Next to the penguin goods gallery on the second floor is a kids' room where families can settle in.Fureai Penguin Beach, where you watch penguins swim in the open sea and rest on the sand, runs only on weekends and public holidays. It is called off during bird flu outbreaks and the molting season, and a notice on the home page says it has been suspended since Saturday, August 8, 2026, so check the home page before you go. You can re-enter as many times as you like on the same day by showing your ticket at the main reception desk. Eating inside the building is not allowed, but the outdoor penguin plaza and lawn are fine. Children not yet in elementary school get in free.
Inside the garden, the Nagasaki Okunchi Hall (Nagasaki Traditional Performing Arts Museum) displays the floats, the kasaboko parasol standards and the carried pieces offered at the Nagasaki Kunchi festival. Partway down the slope there is a rest room, the Steele Gallery Cafe in a Western house that was once a school, and the open-air Glover Cafe, so you can sit down wherever you like while working through the nine Western houses.Stone paving and stone steps left from the foreign settlement days run through the garden, with slopes here and there. It opens at 8:00, and the last admission is 20 minutes before closing. It has no parking lot or bicycle parking of its own, so you use one nearby.
Children's tableware, children's chopsticks and a child's chair are brought out. Saraudon comes two ways and you choose when you order, so for a child who cannot chew the crisp thin noodles you can ask for the thick ones, softened with the sauce.The broth for both champon and saraudon is chicken and pork bone, and no allergy labelling is published. Lunch runs 11:30-15:00 and dinner 17:00-20:00, with the restaurant shut in between, so missing lunch means a two-hour gap. Coming before noon, around the nap rather than into it, gets you fed in the lunch service.
