Namba Parks is an Osaka shopping mall topped by Parks Garden, a free rooftop garden.

The garden climbs in terraces up to the 9th floor, ending in a turf play area with a climbing wall.

MoreWhat kind of place

Namba Parks was built mostly on the site of the former Osaka Stadium (1950 to 1998), opened in October 2003, and was fully open by April 2007. An Osaka city page (2015) notes life-size markers of the old pitcher's plate and home plate set into the floor of Canyon Street on the 2nd floor.

With kidsThe part that matters

That turf play area with a climbing wall is Harappa Hiroba on the 9th floor, and it is free. Its climbing play is a very gentle slope that suits babies just starting to toddle.

A 2016 article describes soft, cork-like ground, so small tumbles are less worrying. There are also a few pieces of play equipment such as a wooden slide, and benches, where one blog saw many people eating packed lunches.

The terraces on the way up take about an hour to stroll slowly, with benches throughout.

By age0-1 / 2-3 / 4-6
  • Ages 0-1The gentle climbing slope suits babies just starting to toddle. One family says the play area fills up with elementary-school children on weekends and advises weekday mornings for 1- to 2-year-olds.
  • Ages 2-3Jalan, a Japanese travel site, finds that the children in its Namba Parks reviews are most often 2 to 3 years old; that is a tally of reviewers, not an age guideline.
  • Ages 4-6Older preschoolers may find it thin: on a February 2019 visit, one family with a 4-year-old found little equipment, though she still enjoyed racing her dad. In a March 2019 post, another family's 6-year-old left early on a weekday visit because the children on the climbing slope were so small.
By weatherRain, heat, cold
  • Rainy dayThe garden and play area are outdoors, while the shops and restaurants are indoors, so on a wet day plan around the indoor floors.
  • Hot dayThe 9th-floor play area has plenty of plants and some shade, and the 4th floor has a planted bed you can walk through in mist.
  • Cold dayWinter evenings bring illumination in the garden; last season it ran from November 7, 2025 to February 15, 2026. In one February 2019 visit, the lights stood on the 9th-floor turf, which was roped off, so check before you promise a romp on the grass; a 4-year-old there was thrilled chasing the lights.
