Fukuoka is the gateway to Kyushu, and its airport is only a few subway stops from the city centre. Because getting around takes so little time, you can use your arrival day, and go back to the hotel for a nap without losing an afternoon. It suits families who want to cut down on transfers and long journeys.

The subway runs directly beneath the domestic terminal and an elevator takes you all the way down to it (about 6 minutes to Hakata Station). The international terminal, however, sits on the opposite side of the runway with no direct physical connection, so crossing to the domestic side means the free inter-terminal bus, about 10 to 15 minutes.
The tank exhibits are indoors across floors 1 to 3, but Kaiju Island on the 1st floor — where you watch the animals from different angles and get close to them — is an outdoor area, and the show pool is built open to Hakata Bay behind it. Of the two places where you may eat food you brought in, the lawn is fair-weather only; the other is the show pool seating, and only when no show is running.
The museum is housed inside the Ropponmatsu 421 building; you enter at the 3rd-floor Welcome Hall at the top of the direct escalator. The hands-on exhibits on the 5th floor and the 25-meter dome theater on the 6th are all under that roof. It is a few steps from exit 3 of Ropponmatsu Station (Science Museum) on the subway Nanakuma Line.
You eat at the shop's 24 seats, counter and tables; there are no private rooms and no buyouts. All seats are non-smoking, and child seats are on hand.
All three counters are on the first floor of the international passenger terminal building, in the area before the security check. If you land at the domestic terminal, you have to move over to the international side by shuttle bus to rent anything.
