The domestic terminal is a semicircular building with eighteen gates that also holds shops, restaurants, a cinema, museum facilities and a hotel. Watch planes from the observation deck, look in at the chocolate factory displays, then play in the free aircraft museum on the third floor — a row of places to go without stepping outside.Even if the flight is delayed, the wait happens in the play zone here. New Chitose Airport Station is at the terminal, and the Rapid Airport service reaches Sapporo Station in about 37 minutes and Otaru Station in about 73 minutes. The loaner strollers cannot go through the security check, so return yours before the checkpoint.
At the Sweets Workshop Dream Kitchen, a five-year-old draws their own picture on a cookie with colored pens. The arcade has mini games whose prizes are made only for this park.Book the sweets workshop on the official site; reservations open for the current month and the next only. The workshop runs several courses, and the last start time is different for each one.
Three themed course maps are offered - one recommended for parents and children, one covering Hokkaido's animals in 90 minutes, and one for enjoying the zoo in snow - so children can choose the route. Scanning the QR codes on posters around the zoo opens an AR photo frame usable anywhere on the grounds. There is also a visitor feature, "Let's watch the animals eat!"Winter strollers for ages 3 to preschool can be borrowed free at the main and west gates (two per gate, no reservations). Children's wheelchairs are also free - three at the main gate and two at the west gate - though lending stops in winter when it snows and cannot be reserved. For the lions, a notice titled "Progress of the cohabitation training and suspension of viewing" was posted on July 31, 2026 (as of the check on 2026-08-14). Electronic tickets can be bought in advance.
The times for the keepers' guided sessions, Mogu Mogu Time and the Naruhodo Guide, are posted on boards at each entrance gate and near the support center, so children can pick which sessions to build the day around. From whichever gate you enter, going counterclockwise is the efficient way round. The Insect House opened on July 24, 2026, and there is also the Animal Reference Exhibition Hall with its animal library.One family with a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old went in at 12:45 and left at 16:30. The zoo's own guide is about three hours, and since it stands on a hillside, taking breaks can push it longer. As a rule you cannot re-enter once you leave. Umbrellas are lent free at each gate's ticket check (800 of them, first come first served, no reservations). Lost property, lost children, and first aid are handled at the Visitor Information, where a nurse is always on duty.
Five restaurants with different characters stand in the grounds: Kaitakushikan, Poplar Kan, Lilac, the Garden Grill and the Beer Garden. Poplar Kan serves the old-style Genghis Khan on a dome-shaped pan and every menu comes with a soft drink bar a child can pour from. Lilac has six seasoned versions of the lamb to pick between. There are several photo spots in the grounds that carry the history of Hokkaido's pioneer days, and the outdoor beer garden stays open in the rain under its big tent.On the all-you-can-eat-and-drink plans, preschool children are free. A group orders the same plan, but at Kaitakushikan, Poplar Kan 1F, Lilac and the Garden Grill anyone under 20 can take the soft-drink free-refill option instead. The Garden Grill's course menu costs the same at any age, has no all-you-can-eat version, and must be booked two days ahead (three days over Obon and New Year). Cakes and other sweets may be brought into the outdoor beer garden - tell the staff on the day. Parking is free for five hours with the ticket validated (150 spaces), but the entrance takes no vehicle over 2 m high, 5 m long, 1.9 m wide or 2 t.
There are seven branches in Sapporo alone - JR Tower Stellar Place, Cocono Susukino, Daido Life Sapporo Building miredo, Teine Maeda, Nishino, Nango and Minami 25-jo - and the JR Tower one is on the 6th floor of Stellar Place at Sapporo Station. Being a conveyor-belt shop, a child chooses and lifts the plates themselves. The tea cups are sold only at the conveyor-belt branches.The JR Tower Stellar Place branch has a stand-and-eat sushi area alongside the seats, with its own sign-up sheet to write your name on. If you miss the seating call they still fit you in within 15 minutes, but past that the ticket is cancelled. Credit cards and e-money work at every branch, while QR-code payment works only at Cocono Susukino in the Sapporo area. Takeaway sushi should be eaten within two hours of pickup - ask the staff for a cold pack.
The children's kaiseki Kamui, for elementary-school age and under, is six courses at 2,800 yen including tax: orange juice, dashimaki omelette, crab gratin, Japanese-style croquette, a thick crab sushi roll and ice cream. It appears on the Sapporo Ekimae main branch's own course page, so it can be ordered here. The building has seven floors and 460 seats, with chair seating, tatami rooms and sunken seating.Both Kamui at 2,800 yen and Pirika at 1,950 yen are limited to elementary-school age and under. Book by phoning the branch directly or through Hot Pepper or Gurunavi (within Japan only); you can fix the course in advance or just hold the table. Shoes come off at the entrance before the elevator. The Sapporo Ekimae main branch is the only one left in Hokkaido - the Susukino branch has closed. An English menu is available.
Once a child passes 110 cm the Rail Slider - a pulley ride down a suspended wire rail, about two minutes a run - and Quick Jump, a free fall from 7 or 10 meters taking 5 to 10 minutes, are open to them. While still 110 cm or under they have Net Tree Trekking, the rope bridges reserved for children. Tree Trekking with a safety harness takes 20 to 30 minutes on the beginner course. Pure also has park golf (18 holes, about two hours, 1,000 yen), disc golf (9 holes, about an hour, 500 yen), badminton (30 minutes, 500 yen) and a golf-cart ride around the grounds (about 15 minutes, 2,000 yen per cart).110 cm is the dividing line - under it, Net Tree Trekking; over it, the Rail Slider and Quick Jump - so measuring beforehand saves an argument on the day. On the Rail Slider a child below elementary-school age needs a parent along; it is 2,500 yen for an adult and 2,000 for a child. In winter, snow school must be booked by 16:00 the previous afternoon, and same-day places are not always available. Sign up at the activity counter on the first floor of the Niseko Gondola, open 8:00-16:30, or at the school desks in the Green Leaf, Hinode Hills and Ritz-Carlton hotels, 8:00-16:00. Helmets are strongly recommended for skiing and snowboarding and can be rented at the rental shop.
Rental bicycles are free for children below elementary-school age, as long as they are tall enough to ride one. Moere Mountain rises 52 meters above the ground and has no lift, so they climb it on their own feet. In winter, that same Moere Mountain and Play Mountain become sledding hills.One lap of the 3.75 km outer path takes 1.5 to 2 hours, so plan water and rest stops if you walk it. The sea fountain runs three or four times a day (13:15 and 16:00 on weekdays; 10:30, 13:15, and 16:00 on weekends and holidays), so time your visit around it. High-voltage lines cross the park and the wind is strong, so kites and radio-controlled models are prohibited.
